I am sad, but also deeply unsurprised, to report that House of the Dragon is nothing beyond the usual Hollywood slop. Where do they get these writers from? Hollywood is obsessed with thinking they can tell a story better than the person who created it. They are committing the same crime with Rings of Power; yet another monstrosity. Did they not learn from Game of Thrones? As soon as they started deviating from George’s writing, it all turned to trash. Why does Hollywood refuse to learn this lesson?
HOTD is going further and further from the lore of Fire and Blood. And now Aemond is kissing Alicent? Are these people on crack? I know George has a strange obsession with incest, but you can’t just throw it in there anywhere you want for no reason.
We are presently living through an era where any modern author would be deeply unwise to sell the rights to their life’s work to these unthinking charlatans. The same disaster simply keeps happening. Wheel of Time had the same problem, and was cancelled. I don’t have any faith in the upcoming Narnia adaptation either. It will likely spit on Lewis’ work. I don’t understand why they keep doing this over and over. What is the goal?
Brandon Sanderson might be doing things the right way with Apple, since he appears to be writing the screenplay or script himself (I cannot recall the specifics, but I know he has a lot of control). Hopefully Mistborn doesn’t turn out to be another tragedy. Time will tell.
My only hope, after seeing how ridiculous HOTD has become, is that George forgets about the adaptations and just focuses on finishing Winds of Winter. It has officially been 15 years since A Dance With Dragons. That number is painful. I have given up trying to understand what he is doing, but I do feel bad for him when seeing how excited he was for HOTD originally, then seeing how disappointed he is now.
