Why I’m Back on Twitter

Posted on July 23, 2024 by t.r.preston

Okay, so I left Twitter a while back because everyone on that platform makes me want to end myself. (And yes, I am still calling it Twitter. X is the dumbest name ever and Elon is an imbecile). I decided it was time to return to the world’s worst place. Why, I hear you ask? Well, I actually missed being able to connect with other writers and readers. That part was fun. And since I left, I have learned new ways to curate my own feed so I do not see politics or whatever global catastrophe is happening on any given day. I was unaware of how to do this when I had my first account.

I am planning to do things better this time around. I have no interest in arguing with people over politics. I have no interest in watching every clip of some innocent person being stabbed, raped, shot, or mutilated. I just want to see books, games, nature, more books, cats, dogs, and more books.

This world gets seemingly darker and darker every month. I am not saying people should tune everything out and only care about playing Dark Souls. Still vote. Still be informed. But be ‘briefed’ on current events rather than bathing in them. One does not need to obsess over every detail of every argument that makes people irate these days. It is simply no way to live.

Twitter, as awful as it is, can also be a very good platform for promoting your own work. It will help me sell more copies of my books and get my name seen more frequently. I wish I could just be a hermit who hides in his cave and no one ever hears from. Nothing would make me happier. But you can’t really sell your work from a cave, can you?
