As I write this there are quite a few things happening over in Ukraine. I’ve been following the situation as closely as I am able, and I must say it is quite worrisome. Russian President Vladimir Putin is lining up soldiers and tanks along the borders of Ukraine. This is such a large force that, honestly, I doubt the man is really there for ‘military exercises’. The last time things became that crowded was 2014, and we all know how that unfolded.
The entire situation regarding Russia and Ukraine is a dizzying one. Putin now has control of Crimea, which he annexed in March of 2014. But he doesn’t wish to stop there. The man wants Ukraine under his control almost as badly as Xi Jinping wants Taiwan. Both men are stirring up more trouble than the world needs right now. I really wish we could deal with one international crisis at a time. At least wait until Covid is somewhat handled before potentially starting World War Three. For goodness sake.
I’m not fully sure how accurate some of the reports are, but is said that Russia has amassed no less than half a million troops for whatever it is they’re doing. Frankly, I doubt Putin would usher them all there just to turn them around and go home. Something is going to happen; you can be sure of that. How the world responds to whatever happens dictates what happens after. The U.S has already warned Putin about his movements, but the man does not seem to be listening. A conflict between Russia and the U.S could lead to worldwide devastation. The same goes for China’s constant poking at Taiwan. It is very frustrating to watch these things unfold when they don’t need to be happening at all. Russia is already the largest nation on earth. Does Putin really need Ukraine that badly? I fail to understand the politics behind the push, no matter how much I research. Just let it go, man. Is it an ego thing? I feel the same way about Taiwan. Just let them be their own nation! Leave them be and focus on the territory you do have. These two imbeciles could cause a world war over two small counties that they just HAVE to have.
I will continue to monitor the situation. I surely hope it does not lead to open war, as the world is down bad enough as it is. Make no mistake, I would gladly volunteer to fight in a war that needed to be fought. I would storm any beach you asked of me if my livelihood or my family’s livelihood was in any way at stake, but these squabbles are petty and rather superfluous. We can only hope NATO can talk Putin down from his box of overcompensation.
I guess we’ll see.
